The debate over immigration, the southern border, and refugees continues to be politicized as the calendar creeps toward 2024. There is a way to frame these issues that moves beyond soundbites, rhetoric, and ideological camps: friendship. We are, after all, talking about people, families, and members of our communities. So what does it look like (and sound like) to frame the issue this way? Come find out!
Come hear Emilia Marroquín talk about her immigration story as she moved from El Salvador to California to Storm Lake, IA. Emilia will discuss practical ways Northwest Iowa can be a place of welcome for all people. We will also hear a panel discussion from leaders in Sioux Center about ways we can break down barriers and build friendships across cultural differences.
